Are you interested in awakening? Yet what if awakening means waking up to life as a dream and dreams as a vital part of a wisely lived life? Suppose it does mean this and that this is a fabulous thing. Dreaming is a wild river of mystery flowing through us, ready for the drinking.
If dreams intrigue you, if reality is a question you wish to enter, if you would like your dharma practice to encompass the activity of the night, if you would like to explore new perspectives and practices of awakening, this course is for you.
THIS 6 WEEK COURSE WILL INCLUDE:
Guided Meditations to connect us with aspects of dream-like reality in present time
Lecture on the weekly theme
Group Dreaming Experience–opportunity to share in each other’s dreams
Exercises to connect to the wisdom of a dream, opening up its symbolism, message, imagery, questions
Support from the facilitators including one private session with Kisei or Jogen.
WEEK 1 – INTRO TO DREAM AS GATE TO REALIZATION
This life is as real as a dream! For those interested in Awakening, bringing attention into the dream space is an important place of practice. All night long we move through cycles of deep sleep and dreaming. What is stirring in your dreams? What potential lessons, wisdom and delusions are moving through your unconscious mind? This week we will frame Dream Practice as part of the path of practice-awakening.
WEEK 2 – MULTI-FACETED VIEWS OF DREAMS: ZEN, JUNGIAN AND MORE
Awakening within a dream! What will that be like? Dreams are viewed in different ways in different traditions - the view we take on dreams and what we experience with them are deeply related. In Week 2, we unpack and contrast a Zen Buddhist with a Jungian and Archetypal view and approach.
WEEK 3 – DREAM AS KOAN: ENTERING IMAGE / SYMBOL
Dreams sometimes leave in their wake a potent image, symbol, gesture, feeling, mood or atmosphere. We may wish to interpret a dream, find its meaning or direction–and yet sometimes what dreams leave us with is an open question. This week we will explore how to work with dream images / symbols as a koan (a deep question or paradox) in your meditation practice but also in daily life.
WEEK 4 – WHO’S DREAMING?–DREAM WORK AS SELF-AWARENESS
The dreaming mind is an ally for those who wish to see. This week we will work with dream as a mandala of the psyche, a read-out of emotions, energies, perspectives, conflicts and desires at play. Dreams show us what is emerging, what we don’t know about ourselves, what is unconscious or hidden.
WEEK 5 – EXPRESSING THE DREAM: ART & RITUAL ACTIONS
Art and ritual actions can help us bring the wisdom of an image or setting in a dream, into waking consciousness. Art and ritual speak the language of dream, in that they are often non-verbal. Moving a dream into an art medium or embodied action brings the dream to life, perhaps highlighting aspects of the dream that were opaque but also aiding us in bringing the dream’s wisdom into our lives.
WEEK 6 – DREAMING IN EVERYDAY LIFE: DREAMING THE DREAM ON
This final week we will share tips for continuing dream work on your own, we will do intention setting exercises and a group dreaming ritual as we dissolve the container of this class and open our work into the wider context of our entire lives
