You Need to Know This…
You need to know this.
He was still, stiller then most human beings.
His blond hair, darkening
As it grew longer.
His blue eyes, cool like a crisp mountain
Sky.
One would see him as
“an interesting human”,
– attractive.
There was something about him
–something that was utterly unsettling.
He was still like nature, an ancient tree, a mountain
Crater Lake, still like the earth after a snowfall.
I remember reading once, that the Greeks feared the gods
For their stillness.
Perhaps the fear initiates a curiosity, what is still in us, reflected
In the presence of another.
You need to know this.
Stillness.
It’s an invitation from the gods.
Perhaps from your soul.
As it calls you back to yourself.
Showing you how to listen.
For knowing is not a matter of reason
Or even conceptual understanding
It’s just more intimate then that.
This stillness. Felt in your body body.
Felt by all the parts of you that want to run outside of yourself
For answers. For approval.
There were others there too.
Like the woman, who was playing the chains on the mountain face.
When you were told that the words on the card were not something you could read. That they must be sung to you.
And how all the people who were sitting on the rock edge. Began to sing along, to make music from chain and stone. How they were squating there
On the side of the red rock.
On the side of the mountain.
Singing to you and making the most beautiful music.
You need to know this.
They were not from this time, or another.
There are people who have been with you
For forever ago.
They know the ancient songs
Of earth and cosmos.
They will sing them back to you
As you are learning how to listen.
Maybe this is your song now. And you play it
In the dreams
Of the others.
You sing the music
That can not be read
The voice of the gods, the ancients, the ones who we once called
Ancestor.
And there were more.
The woman who lost her hair.
The boy without a mouth.
The trap door window
That you open telepathically
To a sky
Where you float
Like a raft
On water.
You need to know this.
This is your home. It is an earthly home. It is a home of spirit.
It belongs to you and it belongs to all and it belongs to no one.
You need to know this.
Sing its songs. Learn to listen. Practice the stillness of nature.
And take care.
