A stone woman gets up dancing
a poetry & art space
Poems for the New Year
What was given?
Light, it came in through the drafty window
It lingered on the table, it spread across the paintings
It made day
In all its colors and shapes
She Held up the Sky (for my Teacher, Chozen Roshi)
Become that sky she said
And it was day and I was night
And the milky way
That river of stars
My body
ART BY LUCIA CALLEJA
Plant a Tree
Plant a tree
A simple invitation
The oak trees arrive in their black plastic
Casings
And one by one are planted
The groundskeeper approaches me one day
Would you like to plant the last oak?
Don’t Ever Forget
The rain, it’s sound on the zendo roof
The way it plays in the forest
On leaf, through wind and bamboo
In the dark
A blanket of sound
Study Water
I ask, What words do you have
For one on the path of Awakening
Who aspires to live a life of generosity
Study water
Oh being of ease and bliss, Study water
Listen to the silence
Listen to things
Listen to your life
What is speaking to you today in the language of silence?
Hear the rain, each drop
The rain before it lands
Is silent
Hear the icons on the phone,
The color green
Listen to all the colors
At once
